JJ Fitness Strength and Conditioning

Strength and conditioning is physical and physiological development of athletes for elite sport performance. It is about more than just lifting weights and getting stronger - it focuses on the entire development of the athlete and what is needed to improve physical performance. This will include explosiveness, speed, agility, flexibility, plyometrics, core conditioning, muscular endurance, stamina and functional movement patterns. All of the above will also condition the body to reduce the risk of injury.

My role as a strength and conditioning coach is to design training programmes tailor made to suit the athletes needs and sport they perfom in. The exercises, drills and training techniques that I implement into the programme will be used to enhance and facilitate performance.

I will also work alongside a sports coach and assist them in designing specific programs to reach the needs of the athlete, sport or team. The programme will also include ongoing assessment. I will be monitoring the athletes progress to make sure we are always on the right track, adapting and seeing progression in all areas of the programme. Changes and improvements will also be made to the programmes, as and when they need to be.

Periodisation will also be put in to my programmes - this is basically putting time frames on certain phases of the programme. I believe this gives complete direction to the programme and will also target strengths and weaknesses, to produce the best possible performance.

I strongly believe strength and conditioning is key to taking athletes to the top of their game and will give them that extra edge they need to be an elite athlete.
